The proud winners of the 2013 Electric Screwdriver Race

Over the track with paper and electric screwdriver – the twelve teams taking part in the 2013 Electric Screwdriver Race proved that it works. The spectators were given quite a show: ad-hoc last-minute repairs, turbulent scenes during the races and an exciting play-off of two teams who completed the track at the same time – all this ensured excitement all round. Not only the almost two thousand spectators had a lot of fun – the teams did too. Today twelve teams from Germany and Switzerland got their feather-light vehicles up and running for a gripping race. The “Papercut” team of the University of Applied Sciences Emden-Leer and its driver Christian Gerdes-Wocken confidently steered their paper racer to victory. This means they have now won the race for the third time.

The second place went to the students of the “Swiss” team of the Zurich University of the Arts, closely followed by the “Pain” team of the Cologne International School of Design in third place. The jury chose the “ASR-Z2” team of Zurich University of the Arts as the one with the best realization in terms of technology and design. However, the spectators were more convinced by the “Papierkram” team of HAWK (University of Applied Sciences and Arts) in Hildesheim and the show it presented. The “Hammerheads” team of the University of Coburg surprised everyone with the lightest vehicle of all – including the electric screwdriver, it weighed no more than 9.8 kg. More than 50 students from study programmes in technology and design took part in this year’s Electric Screwdriver Race held by HAWK (University of Applied Sciences and Arts) in Hildesheim.
